Building A Growth Mindset
If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably had those days (or weeks) where self-doubt sneaks in, or things don’t go the way you planned, right? Whether you’re hustling as a content creator, an artist, or an entrepreneur, it’s easy to hit those bumps in the road. But let me share a little secret with you—the difference between staying stuck and actually moving forward comes down to one thing: mindset.
It’s not talent or luck that’s going to get you through, but rather adopting a growth mindset. And trust me, it can completely change the game for you. So, let’s talk about how to cultivate this mindset and why it’s so essential for anyone looking to make their mark.
So…
What is a Growth Mindset Anyway?
In a nutshell, a growth mindset is the belief that you can grow and improve with time, learning, and effort. This idea was coined by psychologist Carol Dweck, author or Mindset, and it’s the opposite of a fixed mindset, where you believe your abilities are set in stone.
For those of us who are creating something new or trying to grow our businesses, shifting to a growth mindset means we stop fearing failure and start seeing it as a step towards learning and getting better.
Why is a Growth Mindset Essential for Creatives and Entrepreneurs?
Failure is part of the journey: You will fail. But with a growth mindset, you’ll see it not as a dead-end but as a lesson. Failures aren’t the end; they’re just new starting points.
Resilience is key: In creative fields and business, rejection, criticism, and setbacks are par for the course. But with a growth mindset, you bounce back quicker and stronger.
Change is constant: The world of business and creativity is always evolving. If you’ve got a growth mindset, you’ll find it easier to adapt and pivot when things change.
Creative problem-solving: When you hit a challenge, a growth mindset helps you approach it with curiosity, creativity, and determination—rather than frustration and defeat.
How to Cultivate Your Own Growth Mindset
Now, I know you’re wondering—how do I actually do this in my daily life? Here’s what’s worked for me (and I believe it’ll work for you, too):
Reframe Failure as a Learning Opportunity
Instead of seeing failure as something to fear, treat it as a lesson. Every misstep is an opportunity to get better. Trust me, it really is.
Action Tip: Keep a journal where you jot down things you’ve failed at and what you learned. This way, you can track your progress over time.Challenge Those Limiting Beliefs
We all have those nagging thoughts like, “I’m not good enough” or “I’ll never make it in business.” But the truth is, you can change those thoughts. The key is rewriting them into something empowering.
Action Tip: Write down your limiting beliefs and challenge them with positive, empowering statements. Say them out loud every day.Never Stop Learning
The most successful creatives and entrepreneurs I know are lifelong learners. Whether it’s reading books, watching courses, or just picking up new skills, continuous learning is key.

It’s tough to hear criticism, but I’ve learned to embrace it. I prefer to get feedback from people who’ve been there, done that—those who really understand the trenches of business and creativity. It’s real, practical advice you can use.
Action Tip: Join a mastermind group or connect with a mentor who can offer you honest, constructive feedback.Surround Yourself with Growth-Minded People
The people you hang out with can either lift you up or hold you back. Surround yourself with folks who are equally committed to growth, success, and progress.
Action Tip: Join online communities, attend meetups, or find a mentor who can inspire you to keep growing. I have a private Slack community called the Level Up! Membership. It was created for artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs who understand the power of community and connection, are looking for a place that provides resources for growth and success, and are ready to level up their lives completely. Join today!Take Action Despite the Fear
Fear holds us back, right? But the truth is, you won’t build confidence by waiting for fear to disappear—you build it by taking action. Step outside your comfort zone, and watch how quickly your confidence grows.
Action Tip: Identify one thing you’ve been afraid to do (like launching that new product or posting that video) and just do it this week.Want help knocking your fear and limiting beliefs to the curb? Celebrate the Small Wins
Big wins are amazing, but don’t forget to celebrate the small ones, too. After all, those are the ones you typically can control. Each step forward counts.
Action Tip: Start a success journal and write down one thing you accomplished each day. It could be something as small as making a new connection or finishing a project.
